Anise spirits come from the countries around the Mediterranean and Turkey. Their names are Pastis, Ouzo, Anisette, Sambuca, Raki or Absinth. The base of these spirits is anethol, a distilled essence of the anise seed. The use of anise in drinks has a long tradition. In the old Egypt is was used as a cure.
