Botran

Botran is a premium rum from Guatemala. Today it is made still the same way like it was for 200 years. The sugarcane is grown on own plantations in Retalhulea, south of Guatemala, on fertile volcanic soils. In an almost mystic ritual, women plant the sugarcane and men harvest it.
Botran aged rums are made of sugarcane virgin honey, unlike other rums that are fermented and distilled out of molasses. Yeast turns the virgin honey into ethyl alcohol and other ingredients which provide the taste and aroma that distinguish the aged rums.
The distilled rum rests in Botrans Solera System in different types of barrels, such as Chart American Whiskey, Sherry and Port barrels in the highlands of Guatemala. This step is possible thanks to the geographic features of Guatemala. The rum is taken to high altitude to rest near the sky during the ageing process.
