Tipperary

A land in the quiet Ireland

Away from the bustle of Dublin lies the other Ireland, old Ireland. Quiet Ireland. Where things go at their own pace and you’re still sometimes caught behind a herd of cows or a tractor on your way to a meeting.
Tipperary lies in that other Ireland. A county of contrasts, much of Tipperary lies in Ireland’s “Golden Vale”, reputably Ireland’s best farmland. However, it is also bordered by the Knockmealdown and Silvermine Mountains, contains Ireland’s highest inland mountain range (the Galtees) and is adorned by the romantic and mysterious Slievenamon.
Tipperary also has a wealth of archaeological sites, from the Rock of Cashel (the historic seat of the King of Munster) and Cahir Castle (one of Ireland’s largest Castles), to museums such as South Tipperary County Museum. These traditional attractions are complemented by modern interests – today Tipperary is a stronghold for hurling and the birthplace of some of the world’s most successful bloodstock. Whether you’re interested in walking or farming, hurling, horses or history, Tipperary has something for everyone.

Ireland’s finest crops

The Ahearn family have lived and farmed at Ballindoney, Co. Tipperary for as far back as local records exist, over 200 years. More than five generations are known to have farmed this land.
Historically, a mixed farming operation, over the years the farm has been refined until today it specialises solely in crop production.
The farm is located within the famous Golden Vale of Ireland, a rich vein of land that spreads across Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. This land, as well as being beautiful, has rich fertile soil and the perfect conditions for producing Ireland’s finest crops.

A new distillery

Tipperary is home to world famous water and Ballindoney Farm is home every year to spectacular fields of golden barley. Our unique inheritance of the purest water and barley is the first step in our passionate pursuit of a spectacular Single Malt Irish Whiskey, which only Tipperary can call its own.
In 2016 2016 Jennifer and Stuart Nickerson and the farmer Liam Ahearn founded Tipperary Boutique Distillery. They will have to wait at least three years and a day before they can call any spirit they distil “whiskey”. In the meantime, they wanted to bottle something that would provide a taste of what they are aiming to achieve in Tipperary. After much searching, they sourced some casks that they believe embody their vision for Tipperary Whiskey.
