Single Grain whiskeys are very rare as most grain whiskey is normally used with Malt whiskeys to make Blended whiskey. Kilbeggan Single Grain is a truly unique whiskey as it is the only expression of Irish Single Grain whiskey.
“Single grain” does not describe a whiskey made with just one grain. Rather, the term refers to whiskey made in a single location using malted barley and at least one other grain. 94% of the mash bill for Kilbeggan Single Grain is made of meticulously-sourced corn, with the other 6% being malted barley.
Kilbeggan Single Grain is a sweet spirit that absorbs the flavours of the casks it ages in. After aging in ex-bourbon barrels, it is finished in a marriage of ex-bourbon and different fortified wine barrels, giving it a smoothness that makes it ideal for cocktails, as well as a depth of flavour that allows it to be appreciated neat.
Kilbeggan Single Grain carries on the spirit of innovation within the Kilbeggan Distilling Co. family, and serves as a tribute to the town of Kilbeggan.

Producer: Cooley Distillery, Riverstown, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland
The raw ingredients for Grain whiskey are simply maize or as it is otherwise know as corn, water and yeast with perhaps a little barley to help start the distillation process. Grain whiskey is distilled in column stills in a continuous process. This is a modern method of distillation originally invented by an Irishman called Aeneas Coffey but adopted with vigour by the Scotch.
Due to the nature of its distillation Grain whiskey tends to have a lighter flavour than Malt whiskey and its principal purpose is to be mixed with the more flavourful Malt whiskey to produce an easy to drink blended whiskey. However, at Cooley it is aimed to produce a Grain whiskey that is good enough to drink in its own right.
As a result of the column still being predominately made of copper rather than the usual stainless steel and by maturing the Grain whiskey exclusively in ex-bourbon casks they have been able to create a bottling of Single Grain whiskey.
