Rum, Guatemala, 45%vol


In keeping with Zacapa tradition, this small batch rum is produced from first press sugar cane, known as virgin sugar cane honey. It is distilled to its purest form and than aged in Zacapas unique Sistema Solera ageing process, high above the clouds of the Guatemalan highlands.

Master Blender Lorena Vásquez carefully selects the rarest and most mature rums from extensive cellars in the Guatemalan highlands. After a long and gentle maturation, Lorena finishes this precious rum in rare French oak casks exclusively sourced from four french forests, previously owned by royalty, known as ‘Le Bois do Roy’. This highly sought after wood has been protected since the XIII century when its harvest was subject to severe restrictions imposed by the king. Since then, these casks have been produced in very limited quantities and are reserved for only the finest of vintages.

The slow maturation imparts a complexity of aromas and a character that makes this a distinctive rum of exceptional quality. Zacapa Royal evokes a luxuriously rich experience with an intense aroma of chocolate, toasted coconut and almonds and a finish that is sweet, exotic and outstanding smooth.

Each beautifully designed decanter carries around its neck the Petate, a royal Mayan symbol of the unity of time and space, earth and sky – it serves as a reminder of the magic inside each bottle of Zacapa.

Zacapa Rum is regarded as one of the finest in the world. Aged and blended in the 'House Above the Clouds', 2300m above sea level, the cool mountain air slows aging, allowing Zacapa time to rest and develop character. Zacapa uses a unique Sistema Solera process, based on a centuries-old Spanish way of aging sherries, to blend rums of different ages in a sequence of barrels which previously held American whiskies, sweet sherries and fine Pedro Ximenez wines. Refined by craftsmanship and devotion, the whole process is artfully overseen by Master Blender Lorena Vasquez.

The tropical climate and volcanic soil yield high grade sugar cane and, unlike most rums that use molasses, Zacapa is created from the concentrated first press of sugar cane or 'virgin sugar cane honey', which contributes to its award-winning taste.
