The young french aristocrat Pierre de Domecq came to Cadiz in southern Spain in 1816 where he soon had first business successes. Encouraged by this ho founded his own bodega in Jerez. By accident here Brandy de Jerez was invented. After the cancelling of an order of fine wine distillate by a customer, this distillate was put into old sherry casks, stored and then forgotten. An inventory in the year 1886 brought the casks to light. The tasting of their content was a sansational surprise. The long cask maturing and the spicy sherry had transformed the distillate into a wonderful, mellow and compex brandy. Better than anything else known until then. Brandy de Jerez was born and named after the famous king of Spain Carlos I (1500-1558).
